It is currently one of the most popular Tamil talk show aired primarily in Tamil Nadu every Sunday at 9:30 PM – 11:00 PM. It brings together polarized sections of the society and allow them to debate on a topic that affects them the most and they share their views, opinions and counter-arguments. Every week, a topic is chosen and two groups of people representing the extreme ends face each other and discuss on the show. The program deals with the subject both light-heartedly as well as seriously at the same time and often features celebrity guests.

The show was designed and been created by ANTHONY THIRUNELVELI and is currently being hosted by Gopinath, who has been the host since the program began.
History

Although the show started in 2006, it did not receive much attention until few years later when changes were made to give all groups of people an opportunity to express their opinion about topics that is relevant to the current social, economical and political situation. This decision meant the show appealed to all age groups and started to gain popularity. Moreover, it became one of the prominent Tamil shows to promote freedom of speech.

Initially the show was named "Makkal Yar Pakkam", which loosely translates to "which side the people are on". Later, after much consideration, it was renamed to "Neeya Naana". The Director of the show is Mr Antony Thirunelveli who is the brain behind this show.

Unsafe water kills 1,800 kids every day worldwide: UN report
Out of 1,800 child deaths, 24 per cent of the deaths occur in India alone. Nearly 2,000 children around the globe, under the age of five, die every day from diarrhoeal diseases linked to unsafe water, poor sanitation and hygiene, with 24 per cent of the deaths occurring in India alone, a UN report has warned.

Globally, an estimated 2,000 children under the age of five die every day from diarrhoeal diseases and of these some 1,800 deaths are linked to water, sanitation and hygiene, according to the report.

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) child mortality data reveals that about half of under-five deaths occur in only five countries: India, Nigeria, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Pakistan and China.

Two countries -- India (24 per cent) and Nigeria (11 per cent) -- together account for more than a third of all under-five years deaths. These same countries also have significant populations without improved water and sanitation.

Of the 783 million people worldwide without improved drinking water, there are 119 million in China; 97 million in India; 66 million in Nigeria; 36 million in DRC; and 15 million in Pakistan.

The figures for sanitation are even bleaker. Those without improved sanitation in these countries are: India 814 million; China 477 million; Nigeria 109 million; Pakistan 91 million; and DRC 50 million.

As the world celebrates World Water Day today, UNICEF has urged governments, civil society and ordinary citizens to remember that behind the statistics are the faces of children.

Despite a burgeoning global population, these deaths have come down significantly over the last decade, from 1.2 million per year in 2000 to about 760,000 a year in 2011. However, UNICEF said that is still too many.

"Sometimes we focus so much on the big numbers, that we fail to see the human tragedies that underlie each statistic," said Sanjay Wijesekera, global head of UNICEF's water, sanitation and hygiene programme.

"If 90 school buses filled with kindergartners were to crash every day, with no survivors, the world would take notice. But this is precisely what happens every single day because of poor water, sanitation and hygiene," Wijesekera said in a statement.

"The numbers can be numbing, but they represent real lives, of real children. Every child is important. Every child has the right to health, the right to survive, the right to a future that is as good as we can make it," said Wijesekera.

Wijesekera said the progress already made since 1990 shows that with the political will, with investment, with a focus on equity and on reaching the hardest to reach, every child should be able to get access to improved drinking water and sanitation, perhaps within a generation.

இந்துக்கள் கொண்டாடப்படும் பண்டிகைகளில் ஹோலியும் ஒன்று. இந்த ஹோலி பண்டிகை பெரும்பாலும் வட இந்தியாவில் தான் கொண்டாடப்படும். இந்த பண்டிகையின் சிறப்பு என்னவென்றால், ஒருவர் மீது ஒருவர் வண்ணப் பொடிகளையோ அல்லது வண்ணம் கலந்த நீரையோ வீசிக் கொண்டு விளையாடுவது தான்.

 இதனை ஒரு வசந்த கால பண்டிகை என்றும் சொல்லலாம். இந்த பண்டிகையின் கொண்டாட்டத்தின் போது வண்ணப் பொடிகள் படாமல், இருக்க பலரும் முயற்சிப்பர்.

 இருப்பினும் சிக்கிக் கொள்ளும் வாய்ப்பு அதிகம் உள்ளது. மேலும் இந்த பண்டிகையின் கொண்டாட்டத்தினால் சிலருக்கு உடல், சருமம் போன்றவற்றில் பிரச்சனைகள் ஏற்படவும் வாய்ப்புள்ளது. 

எனவே இத்தகைய பிரச்சனைகள் வராமல் இருப்பதற்கு என்னவெல்லாம் செய்ய வேண்டுமென்று ஒருசிலவற்றை பட்டியலிட்டுள்ளோம். அதைப் படித்து தெரிந்து கொண்டு, அவற்றை பின்பற்றி, ஹோலி பண்டிகையை நண்பர்களுடன் சிறப்பான முறையில் கொண்டாடி மகிழுங்கள்.

* தற்போது தாவரங்களின் மூலம் தயாரிக்கப்பட்ட நிறங்கள் கொண்ட பொடிகளை விட, ஆசிட், மைகா, கண்ணாடி துகள்கள் போன்றவற்றின் மூலம் தயாரிக்கப்பட்ட பொடிகள் அதிகம் விற்கப்படுகின்றன. எனவே சரியான பொடிகளை வாங்கிப் பயன்படுத்த வேண்டும். இதனால் எந்த ஒரு அழற்சியும் ஏற்படாமல் இருக்கும். 

* வண்ணப் பொடிகள் தலையில் பட்டால், பின் தலையில் பொடுகு, கூந்தல் உதிர்தல் போன்றவை ஏற்படும். எனவே பண்டிகையை கொண்டாடும் முன், தலைக்கு நன்கு தேங்காய் எண்ணெய் தடவிக் கொண்டு, பின் விளையாடினால், தலையில் வண்ணப் பொடிகள் தங்குவதை தவிர்க்கலாம். மேலும் தலைக்கு தொப்பியை அணிந்து கொள்வதும் சிறந்தது. 

* வண்ண நிறப் பொடியானது கண்களில் பட்டால், பின் அவை கண்களுக்கு மிகுந்த எரிச்சலை உண்டாக்கும். எனவே அவ்வாறு கண்களில் பொடியானது பட்டுவிட்டால், அப்போது உடனே குளிர்ந்த நீரால் கண்களை அலசிவிட வேண்டும். ஒருவேளை கண்களில் பொடி பட்டு, எரிச்சலுடன் வலியும் இருந்தால், உடனே மருத்துவரை அணுகுவது நல்லது.

 * ஹோலி பண்டிகையின் போது எந்த நேரமும் முகத்தில் வண்ண பொடியானது வீசப்படும். எனவே இந்த பண்டிகையின் போது, சருமத்தில் எந்த ஒரு பிரச்சனையும் வராமல் இருப்பதற்கு, முகத்திற்கு மாய்ச்சுரைசர் க்ரீம் அல்லது சன் ஸ்கிரீன் லோசனை தடவிக் கொண்டால், எந்த ஒரு பாதிப்பும் சருமத்தில் ஏற்படாமல் இருக்கும்.

* உடல் முழுவதும், ஆலிவ் ஆயில், தேங்காய் எண்ணெய், பாதாம் எண்ணெய் அல்லது கடுகு எண்ணெயை உடல் முழுவதும் தடவிக் கொண்டால், சருமத்தில் வண்ணப் பொடியில் உள்ள நிறமானது சருமத்தில் தங்காமல் தடுக்கலாம். 

* ஹோலியின் போது பாங்க் என்னும் பானம் அருந்தப்படும். இந்த பானத்தை வெறும் வயிற்றில் அளவுக்கு அதிகமாக குடிக்க வேண்டாம். அதிலும் குறிப்பாக ஆல்கஹாலுடன் சேர்த்து சாப்பிடக் கூடாது.

 டெல்லியில் ஆஸ்திரேலியாவுக்கு எதிரான இறுதி டெஸ்ட் போட்டி நடைபெற்று வரும் நிலையில் டெண்டுல்கரின் அண்ணன் அஜித் டெண்டுல்கர் டெல்லியில் முகாமிட்டிருப்பது பலரது புருவங்களை ஆச்சரியத்தில் உயர்த்தியிருக்கிறது. 

தாம் விளையாடும் போது தமது ஆட்டத்தை தொலைக்காட்சிகளில் அண்ணன் அஜித் டெண்டுல்கர் பார்க்கமாட்டார். வானொலி சப்தம் கூட கேட்காத வெகு தொலைவுக்கு பயணம் செய்துவிடுவார் என்று டெண்டுல்கரே கூறியிருக்கிறார். 

ஆனால் இம்முறை டெல்லியில் டெண்டுல்கர் தங்கியிருக்கும் அதே ஹோட்டல் மெளரியாவில் ரூம் போட்டு தங்கியிருக்கிறார். ஆஸ்திரேலியாவுடனான நடப்புத் தொடர் முடிந்த பிறகு தென்னாப்பிரிக்கா செல்கிறது இந்திய அணி. 

பின்னர் நியூசிலாந்து மற்றும் இங்கிலாந்து நாடுகளுக்கு டெஸ்ட் தொடர்களுக்காக செல்கின்றனர். அதனால் இந்திய மண்ணில் வெளிநாட்டு அணியுடனான கிரிக்கெட் போட்டி என்பது இன்னும் 18 மாதங்கள் கழித்தே நடைபெறும். 

அப்போது டெண்டுல்கருக்கு 41 வயதாகிவிடும். அவர் தற்போது ஒருநாள் போட்டிகளில் இருந்து ஓய்வை அறிவித்திருக்கிறார். இதனால் டெஸ்ட் போட்டியில் இருந்தும் ஓய்வை அறிவிப்பாரோ?
